Wasp Hardware Questions

Choosing printers and scanners, matching ribbons to labels, and deciding between a bundle and separate parts.

Do I need Wasp software to use Wasp hardware?

No. The scanners, printers and mobile computers are standard devices and work with other inventory and asset systems.

The reason people buy Wasp as a set is that InventoryCloud and AssetCloud are built around the same hardware, so the scanner, the label format and the database already agree with each other. That removes the integration work that usually eats the first month of a project.

If you already have a system you are keeping, tell us what it is and we will confirm which Wasp hardware fits it.

Which Wasp label printer should I choose?

The WPL304 Plus and WPL308 Plus are the desktop models and cover most asset tagging and inventory labelling from a bench or stockroom. The WPL614 Plus is the industrial model, for continuous output and larger media rolls.

The practical difference is roll capacity and duty. Desktop units take a 1-inch core at up to 5-inch diameter; industrial takes a 3-inch core at up to 8-inch, meaning far fewer media changes per shift.

Browse desktop or industrial label printers.

Which Wasp scanner should I choose?

Start with what you scan and where. The WLR8950 is a corded long-range 1D scanner for a fixed station. The WWS550i and WWS110i are 1D cordless and pocket units. The WWS652, WWS210i and WWS752 are 2D, reading QR codes, DataMatrix and codes from a phone screen.

The WWS752 is the rugged one, built for warehouse and industrial use rather than a counter.

Browse Wasp barcode scanners, or compare across vendors in rugged Bluetooth scanners.

Do I need a mobile computer or just a scanner?

A scanner sends data to a computer and does nothing on its own, which suits a fixed receiving desk or a bench beside a PC.

A mobile computer such as the DR6 or WDT950 runs the application in the aisle, so an operator counting stock or auditing assets sees what to do next without walking back to a terminal. The WT10 tablet suits the same work where a larger screen helps.

For a stock count across a warehouse, the mobile computer usually pays for itself in the first audit. Browse Wasp mobile computers.

Which labels should I use for asset tags?

Thermal transfer polyester with a resin ribbon. An asset tag has to stay scannable for the working life of the equipment it identifies, and paper labels fade within months.

Wasp also stock Kimdura, a synthetic that resists tearing and moisture, and polyester void-removal stock which leaves a visible mark if someone peels the tag off. That last one matters for regulated or high-value assets.

Browse Wasp labels and matching ribbons.

Which ribbon goes with which label?

Wax ribbons pair with paper labels. Wax/resin suits coated paper and light synthetic use. Resin is required for polyester and Kimdura.

This is the most common ordering mistake with thermal transfer. A wax ribbon on a polyester asset tag prints beautifully and then rubs off under a fingernail, because wax will not bond to a synthetic surface.

Direct thermal labels need no ribbon at all. Browse Wasp ribbons.

Should I buy a bundle or piece it together?

A bundle if you are starting from nothing. The asset tracking and inventory kits ship with the printer, the scanner or mobile computer, and the label stock already matched, so nothing arrives needing a ribbon you did not know to order.

Piece it together if you already own part of the setup, or if your label material differs from the standard kit, for example if you need polyester rather than paper.
