Which Wasp desktop label printer should I choose?

The WPL304 Plus is the entry desktop model and covers most asset tagging and inventory labelling from a bench or stockroom. The WPL308 Plus sits above it for higher volumes and finer print.

Both take a 1-inch core at up to 5-inch outside diameter, so they share the same media. Choose on how hard the printer will work rather than on features.

If output runs continuously through a shift, look at the industrial range.

Direct thermal or thermal transfer?

Direct thermal prints without a ribbon onto heat-sensitive stock. Cheaper per label and simpler to run, but the print fades within months and faster in heat or sunlight.

Thermal transfer uses a ribbon and produces print that survives years. Every durable asset tag is thermal transfer, without exception.

What media fits a desktop printer?

A 1-inch core with a maximum 5-inch outside diameter. Industrial rolls on a 3-inch core will not fit, which is the most common ordering mistake when a site runs both.

Width is the other constraint. Check the label width against the printer before ordering, particularly if you are moving from 2-inch asset tags to 4-inch shipping labels.

Can a desktop printer handle asset tagging?

Yes, and it is the usual choice for it. Asset tagging is typically batch work rather than continuous output, which is exactly what a desktop printer is built for.

What matters more is the media. Use thermal transfer polyester with a resin ribbon rather than paper, since an asset tag has to outlive the equipment it identifies.
