Racking, walls, metal shelving and fridges all cut range substantially, so treat published distances as a ceiling rather than a working figure. What matters more is behaviour at the edge of range: good scanners store scans in batch memory and upload them on reconnection, so a walk out of range does not lose data. Ask about batch memory before assuming range alone.

Most pair either as a keyboard (HID) or a serial port profile (SPP), and the mode is set by scanning a configuration barcode from the manual. HID needs no driver and types data straight into any field, which suits most POS and inventory software. SPP is required by some applications that expect a serial data stream. If you are deploying more than a handful in one room, mention that when specifying, as it affects which family to choose.

Generally yes, but check the specifics. iOS devices can be fussier about pairing profiles, and some scanners suppress the on-screen keyboard when paired in HID mode, which is either helpful or infuriating depending on your workflow. Many scanners include a toggle for that behaviour. Confirm your app lists the scanner as supported, since mobile POS platforms often certify a short list rather than accepting any Bluetooth device.

Cordless earns its place when staff walk to bulky goods, scan in receiving, or work an aisle away from the till.
