Buying Guide

Zebra Wristband Questions

Choosing a Z-Band variant, matching it to a printer, and sizing for the patient.

Which Z-Band wristband should I choose?

Z-Band Direct is the everyday direct thermal band. Comfort is softer for longer stays. Splash resists water and hand sanitiser. Fun is designed for paediatric use, and Fusion pairs an adult band with matching infant ID tags.

Closure matters as much as material: adhesive closures suit general admissions, clip closures suit patients who may try to remove them.

All are printed on a dedicated wristband printer rather than a label printer.

Which printer do Zebra wristbands need?

Wristbands use cartridge-based printers rather than standard label printers. The ZD510 is the current model and the HC100 is its predecessor.

The cartridge design matters in healthcare, because staff change media in seconds without threading a roll or touching the band surface.

A standard desktop label printer will not take wristband cartridges, so check the printer before ordering media.

Do wristbands survive water, soap and hand sanitiser?

The synthetic Z-Band materials are built for it. A wristband has to stay scannable through handwashing, showering and repeated alcohol gel exposure for the length of a stay.

Direct thermal print does not run when wet, but it does darken with heat, so bands should not be stored anywhere warm before use.

Splash variants are specified where water exposure is heaviest.

Are there paediatric and infant sizes?

Yes. The range covers adult, paediatric and infant sizes, with Z-Band Fun designed specifically for children and Z-Band Fusion providing matching mother and infant identification.

Infant bands are sized for very small wrists and ankles and use gentler adhesives.

Tell us the patient population and we will match the band and closure to it.
